What Is IPv6?
IPv6 is the newer internet addressing system using 128-bit addresses. It expands address space beyond IPv4 and can coexist with IPv4 on many networks.
What is an IPv6 leak?
An IPv6 leak can happen when expected VPN routing covers IPv4 traffic but IPv6 traffic takes a different path. Seeing IPv6 alone is not automatically a leak.
How to test your VPN with IPv6

- An IPv6 leak can happen when IPv6 traffic takes a different path than expected while using a VPN, even if IPv4 traffic is tunneled.
- Does seeing an IPv6 address automatically mean a VPN leak?
- No. An IPv6 address alone is not proof of a leak. Compare expected routing behavior before and after connecting to your VPN.
- Should I disable IPv6 immediately if detected?
- Not necessarily. First verify your VPN provider's IPv6 behavior and compare baseline vs VPN-connected results.
